<p>MLSE CEO Keith Pelley announced Thursday afternoon that the organization <a href="https://theleafsnation.com/news/toronto-maple-leafs-brendan-shanahan-part-ways-11-years">would not be renewing Brendan Shanahan&#8217;s contract</a> for the 2025-26 season. <a href="https://theleafsnation.com/news/after-11-years-failure-time-brendan-shanahan-fall-toronto-maple-leafs">Shanahan spent the past 11 years</a> as the president and alternate governor of the Maple Leafs, taking on the role in <a href="https://theleafsnation.com/news/timeline-brendan-shanahan-tenure-toronto-maple-leafs">April 2014</a>. The 56-year-old executive met with Pelley, along with the rest of the MLSE board of directors on Thursday before their decision was formally announced.</p>
<p>Shanahan then <a href="https://theleafsnation.com/news/brendan-shanahan-releases-statement-contract-mlse-toronto-maple-leafs-expires">released his own statement through the Maple Leafs</a>, thanking the organization, the city, Treliving, head coach Craig Berube and the fans for their support through his tenure.</p>

<p>Treliving was brought in by Shanahan in May 2023, after the Leafs dismissed general manager Kyle Dubas. There was a prerequisite for prior experience and it was widely believed that Treliving was Shanahan&#8217;s preferred candidate throughout the search process. Treliving made a number of stellar acquisitions during his first two seasons with the club, signing Chris Tanev, Anthony Stolarz, Oliver Ekman-Larsson among others last season to bolster the team&#8217;s defence and goaltending.</p>
<p>&#8220;He has earned tremendous respect amongst his peers throughout his years in the NHL and has built excellent relationships at all levels within the game,&#8221; Shanahan said of Treliving, upon joining the organization in <a href="https://www.nhl.com/mapleleafs/news/maple-leafs-name-brad-treliving-general-manager-344663882">May 2023</a>. &#8220;We are confident that Brad&#8217;s leadership and strategic vision will elevate the Maple Leafs in our continued pursuit of a championship.&#8221;</p>
<p>It is unclear at the time of this filing if or when Treliving will hold his end-of-year media availability. Craig Berube, Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, John Tavares, Matthew Knies, Chris Tanev, Morgan Rielly, Joseph Woll and Anthony Stolarz all met with reporters on Tuesday.</p>
<p>Treliving is safe for the upcoming season, but there could be further changes in what could be a franchise-altering summer for the Maple Leafs.</p>
